Chinese New Year is nearly upon us, and on the 28th January we will wave goodbye to the Year of the Monkey and will welcome in the Year of the Rooster. If you are living in London or choose to visit the city during this time you will find a whole host of celebrations taking place across the city to mark the occasion. From parades and festivals to workshops and lavish meals, there is something for everyone to take part in. Here are some of this years Chinese New Year celebration highlights.
Cutty Sark Chinese New Year Celebrations If you are looking for something creative to do to celebrate the year of the Rooster head to Greenwich where you can take part in a whole host of activities. It's an event suitable for all ages, but please be aware that you will need to pay an entrance fee if you wish to partake in the activities in the Cutty Sark. Entrance to the National Maritime Museum.

Magical Lantern Festival If you want to spend a spectacular evening admiring a beautiful, outdoor lantern installation, head to Chiswick House and Gardens for the Magical Lantern Festival. Last years festival included pandas, enormous dragons and even London telephone boxes. The theme for this year is 'Explore The Silk Road' and is set to include a lantern Houses of Parliament, as well as other iconic figures from Europe, Asia, India and Ancient China.

Dine at a Chinese Restaurant To celebrate Chinese New Year, you may just choose to have a relaxing meal with friends and family. And where best to go in the city for Chinese food than China Town itself. If you haven't visited the area before it is only a short walk from Soho and Leicester Square. But remember this area will be very busy, so do book ahead to avoid disappointment. If you need recommendations for restaurants in the area Time Out have compiled a list of places to eat out at when in Chinatown.
Chinese New Year Parade And finally, one of the largest celebrations of Chinese New Year in London. That's right it is the Chinese New Year Parade. The celebrations usually begin with a stunning parade which winds throught the streets around the West End, Trafalgar Square and of course Chinatown. Throught the day there are also live stage performances, dragon and lion dances, acrobats and martial arts.
